Dr. Frank B. Wyatt, Ed.D., ETT

Up close: Dr. Wyatt has worked closely with the MSU Cycling Team since he arrived at Midwestern in May 2005. Dr. Wyatt is the chairman of MSU's Department of Kinesiology, and we're glad that he has a keen interest in cycling and working with our team.

Dr. Wyatt has helped take the team to a new level in terms of testing. All athletes on the team have the opportunity to undergo blood lactate, VO2 max and Wingate testing. Some members of the team also have started training with power meters that have been supplied by the kinesiology department.

Midwestern's cyclists are part of a relationship that is unique among collegiate programs in the country. We know of no other collegiate program that is as involved in testing and relevant cycling-related research that directly benefits its athletes.

MSU's exercise physiology lab is equipped with a Velotron, which is a research-grade ergometer, as well as a Parvo metabolic cart.

Dr. Wyatt presented a research paper on a method for detecting heart-rate threshhold that involved MSU cyclists as subjects at a sport science conference in Sydney, Australia, in October 2006.

Several team members who are kinesiology majors play a hands-on role in the testing of team athletes and other cycling-related projects through internships.

Dr. Wyatt was involved with exercise physiology and cycling at other universities prior to coming to MSU, including Wichita State University in Kansas, Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, La. Much of his published research has been on cycling-related topics.

Dr. Wyatt earned a doctorate in exercise science from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. He is an avid cyclist. He and his wife, Cindy, live in Wichita Falls with their two children.
