The Rho Nu chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. started at Midwestern State University in the spring semester of 1994. The birth of Rho Nu began with an interest group known as B-WISE. This group was made up of undergraduate women, who all held the same interest in promoting academics and aiding the community of Wichita Falls. As membership in B-WISE grew, new ideas formulated and a new interest group emerged. The second interest group was named Family Unity. This organization began at Midwestern State University in the academic school year of 1994-1995. The purpose of Family Unity was to foster sisterhood among women by forming a bond of friendship between varying ages, cultures, and backgrounds in a sociable atmosphere. Once the mission was completed, twelve members of Family Unity were asked to unite in a lifetime of sisterhood in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. On March 17, 1996 the Rho Nu chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was born on the campus of Midwestern State University. These twelve women are known as Rho Nu’s charter members: Stephanie Gonzales, Lynn Doss, Stephanie Smith-Sams, LeGwenda Smith, Sonia Evans, Erica Whitaker, Trachelle Warner, Michelle Brown-Stephenson, Rosamond Blanchard, Wendy Peters, Jocelyn Lewis, and Belinda Cornish. Since 1996, Rho Nu has invited 45 women of high ethical and moral standards to join the sisterhood of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. B-WISE
